Welcome to the Vertical Farm: Rooftop Farming Unit Project page. The Vertical Farm: RFU is a mechanical engineering senior design project at Stevens Institute of Technology.

Our team consists of one engineering manager and six mechanical engineers. As a mechanical engineer project people think of robotics, manufacturing, or power plants. Our goal with the RFU is be able to "manufacture" food on wasted commercial or residential rooftop space in urban areas. The RFU will turn the common idea of agriculture upside down. It will create a system that will produce high yields of crops with efficiency, using less resources, less land, and no pesticides or agricultural run off. In a way the RFU can still be considered a power plant project as well, but "generating" probably the most important power in the world.
This project hopes to continue as a senior design project for many years, improving the system and eventually being able to automate it, allowing for further efficiency.
